Commercial growth of Eucheuma is an important source of income for people living in developing nations. In many SE Asian nations, the production of the seaweed serves as a sustainable source of income, as well as having lower environmental costs, compared to other sectors of aquaculture.
Eucheuma Cottonii is one of the most abundant as well as one of the fastest growing species of seaweeds. The commercial aspects for growing Eucheuma Cottonii are visible by the massively large quantities of this seaweed grown and harvested over short periods of time.
