Project 3 — Sea Urchin (Echinoidea)
An ESG Accredited Investment and a true ESG play. ‘Bulu Babi’ is how Sea Urchin are referred to in the Bahasa Indonesian language.
There are many, many macroeconomic factors which support this Sea Urchin Farming and Fattenging Investment Thesis. First and foremost, there is continued and ongoing overfishing in many parts of the ocean, in addition to measurable changes in ocean conditions, it is noted that Sea Urchin populations have increased not only in many parts of Indonesia, but in many parts of the Pacific.
At present, without being controlled, Sea Urchins are now overgrazing seaweed kelp forests among other other seagrass areas. Still more, some predators of Sea Urchin have been overfished and this vacancy in the food chain allows for Sea Urchin populations to proliferate. Sea Urchin have the ability to eat Sea Kelp forests, and then lay dormant for not only months, but for years, until the Sea Kelp grows back again, to only once again repeat this ugly process.
In the bigger picture, as well, seaweeds help with carbon sequestration. If we do our part to remove the over-supply of Sea Urchins, these natural seaweed areas will rapidly be able to bounce back and come into a stable, ocean ecosystem balance. Our investment thesis and business model is for us to continue to source baby and adolescent Sea Urchin. We will remove them from the sea floor before these Sea Urchin become too large.
We are able to fish and source these Sea Urchin from across the many provinces across Indonesia. Finally, we store and transport these Sea Urchin live, in boats, to be transported to out holding tanks and aquarium facilities located in both Bali & Jakarta. We are able to house these Sea Urchin for several months, feeding the Sea Urchin various types of seaweed, and thus are able to fatten up the Sea Urchin to a very healthy size.
Last but certainly not least, we are then able to deliver our Sea Urchin to Japanese Sushi Restaurants and similar seafood clients, including export clients. We are able to secure the necessary documentation for exports. In summary, with this business approach, we successfully cut out all possible ‘middlemen’ in the supply chain.
Still more, we are able to create local jobs, and drive down costs throughout the supply chain. Most importantly, we are helping Planet Earth in more ways than one!
